The Scookiepad has its hardware version engraved on the bottom. Look for “v2.x” or “v3.x” next to the serial. v3.x units have a smoother edge and a slightly recessed power button. v2.x feels chunkier. Don’t guess.
Flip it.
Charge it first. Minimum two hours. Even if the LED glows faintly, plug it in and walk away.
I’ve seen too many users power it on early and get weird boot loops.
To enter setup mode: hold power + reset for five seconds. Not three. Not seven.

Grant Bluetooth permissions while the app is open. Not later. Not after you tap “Add New Device.” Right then.
Scan. Look for “SCPD-XXXX”. Not “Simcookie” or “CookiePad.” Tap it.
Tap to connect, not pair. There’s no pairing step. That word doesn’t belong here.
Ninety percent of “pairing failed” errors? iOS background restrictions. Low Power Mode kills it. So does having Slack, Spotify, and three weather apps running.
Close them. Toggle Bluetooth off/on. Disable Low Power Mode.
The app must stay open. And foregrounded. For 90 seconds.
Set auto-lock to 2 minutes or more. If it dims, it fails.

First-Time Scookiepad Setup: No Guessing

The portal won’t let you skip it.
Store it offline. Not in Notes. Not in iCloud.
Paper works. A metal backup works better.
DNS defaults to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). You can change it. But if you’re on a corporate network, ask your IT team first.
They’ll likely tell you to reserve a static IP for the Scookiepad in your router’s DHCP table. Otherwise, it vanishes after reboot.

I plug mine in. White LED goes solid. App says Online.
I tap blink LED 3x (it) blinks. That’s success. Anything less means something’s off.
No gray areas here.

From what I’ve seen, no “mostly working.”
If the app says Connected but Offline, your router is blocking it. Check UDP port 5683. That’s CoAP.
Your firewall probably slammed the door shut. Also: is mDNS enabled? If not, turn it on.
(Most consumer routers have it off by default. Dumb.)
App drops after 10 seconds? Uninstall Simcookie Connect. Clear its cache.
Reinstall. Log back in with your recovery phrase (never) reset the device. You’ll lose everything.
Scookiepad syncs like a moody teenager if it’s too far or near interference. Keep it within 10 meters of the router. Not behind a microwave.
Not next to a cordless phone. Both scream over 2.4GHz.
Factory reset? Only if you’ve tried everything and still get nothing. Press the pinhole for 12 seconds.
Otherwise? Export the diagnostic log first. Then contact support.
